The Gift

QUATERN - poetry style

Hurtful words were spoken
Actions speak louder than words
Tears of hurt and tears of pain
Hearts spilling out their innards

I hold her in my loving arms
Actions speak louder than words
While she cries her broken tears
She blooms a thousand orchids

She looks deep within herself
To find her inner truth
Actions speak louder than words
She releases the love of her youth

This gift of wisdom will help her heal
This act of gently moving forward
She embraces her own identity
Actions speak louder than words

Who's Listening?

A Triolet is a poetic form consisting of only 8 lines.  Within a Triolet, the 1st, 4th, and  7th lines
repeat, and the 2nd and 8th lines do as well.  The rhyme scheme is simple:  ABaAabAB, capital
letters representing the repeated lines.

Today I was intrigued by some poems written in this style by a couple of poets in the poetry community I belong to. I was inspired to try one myself.

Be careful of the words you speak
You never know who’s listening
Your words may be very tres chic
Be careful of the words you speak
Truthful words are gentle critique
But harsh words could be blistering
Be careful of the words you speak
You never know who’s listening

The Truth About Lies and Addiction

Dedicated to those who have family members with addictions.
It is heartbreaking to watch a family self-destruct.

The truth of your perception
Is your story -- your conception
Speaking to me you casually mention
And I listen in polite attention
My heart aborbing in reception
My salty tears are the reaction
I believe your lies -- your deception
All your words....and their destruction

Many hearts are broken in your wake
As you attempt to save your grace
Instead the tears run down my face
Substance abuse has ruined your fate
Please get help for heaven's sake
It's you and your family's lives at stake
It doesn't matter that you've been fake
As you sleep inside that bed you make

The truth is skewed by your drunken haze
As you wander about inside your maze
Your thoughts have  become your stupid craze
They crash your truth like a tsunami wave
Until you can admit your alcoholic rage
All will stay the same -- nothing will change
The people you love the most will move away
And you'll be left with lies and lonely days

All is not lost, there is too much to gain
Take a good hard look at all your pain
All the tears that are causing your rain
The hurt, the nonsense inside your brain
Addiction is brutal - don't be ashamed
Stop the abuse now....just please refrain
Find your truth....it lives on Redemption Lane

The Box of Time

These are more than just clippings
Carefully cut from the newspaper
They are people from my past
Family I've known forever
Friendships everlast

I keep them in this box
My memories keep them alive
I honour them with a special thought
A cherished memory, like a lovely story
I am the last one to ponder my own mortality

The Chakras Inside My Violets

Violet is the colour of the crown
Indigo eye is so big and round
Orange spreads happiness around
Let your big BLUE voice be found
Every GREEN heart will always pound
Truthful YELLOW is very profound
Send your RED roots to the ground

We stand
 Upon this Heavenly bridge
Me and myself
The Perfect Pair

REFLECTING

Two paths
What was done
What could have been
Neither right or wrong
It just is

LOVE
Absolute

I am the Ghost - Thursday Think Tank #39

IMAGE CREDIT:  POETS UNITED - THURSDAY THINK TANK #39
A cobweb in the corner of my mind
A faded black and white photo
The memory lingers for a little while
This ghost of my not so recent past

I pay a visit to my younger self
"hello...how have you been?"
Maybe I'll give myself some advice
To this ghost of my not so recent past

It is nice to visit the past for a short time
But my present self pulls me back
Brushing aside that cobweb in the corner
Of the ghost of my not so recent past.

A Lover's Revenge

Mag 56 - inspiration picture provided by http://magpietales.blogspot.com/

Your skin is translucent like a dame so fair
I peel you to reveal your inner sweet  layer
Then I chop your heart into a million pieces
As your elegantly sweet fragrance releases

I wrap you with a foil hug, roasting you in thyme
I am your cruelest lover, but still you think I am fine
You come bursting out of your translucent skin
Revealing your wonderous flavour within

You are my secret lover, I toast you, salute you
We celebrate with a goblet o' wine or two
I savour your flavour, but you do me no favour
Because all secret relationships come with a waiver

You are my cruelest lover....for the very next day
People won't speak to me, my breath has betrayed
I scrub my teeth, brush them and floss some more
But there you remain like a stubborn cold sore

So is this what you call your sweet revenge?
It doesn't matter.....I would do it again!
Next time I will share you with all of my friends
That way we ALL have bad breath in the end.
